Domestic Students

At registration, students are enrolled in the Student Accident Insurance Plan (administered by the Student Administrative Council) and issued a policy brochure.

It is the responsibility of each student to provide for personal health insurance. Ontario students should check their family insurance coverage. Canadian students from other provinces should remain with their own provincial health plan while attending the College.

Most full time students are charged a Health Care Fee (See: Fees) for Benefits administered by the Student Administrative Council. The coverage for these Health and Dental benefits runs from September 1st to August 31st each year. Students who start in January are covered from January 1st until August 31st. Students who start in May are covered from May 1st until August 31st.

Students may opt out of SAC’s Health and Dental plan and receive a refund if they have proof of alternative coverage.

International Students

Students from outside Canada are insured by a mandatory private health insurance coverage through StudentGuard, which costs approximately $60.00 per month and is paid as part of your tuition.

Niagara College registers all international students automatically into a health insurance policy through StudentGuard Health Insurance. Typically students will receive their insurance card within a month of classes starting. If you do not receive your card, please contact the International Student Advisor.
